Hi all, I'm going to be in Singapore next weekend and I was trying to work out what will be the best times to see the A350. I've worked out the following, but is there anything else to add? Arrive | Depart | Code | | 06.20 | SQ950 | 09.15 | | QR942 | | 09.55 | SQ856 |
| 10.40 | QR943 | 10.45 | | SQ953 | 15.15 | | QR946 | | 18.45 | SQ118 | 19.35 | | SQ861 | 20.20 | | QR944 | | 21.10 | QR947 | 21.45 | | SQ119 | | 02.25 | QR945 |
I know Singapore has a (wonderful) outside viewing area airside, but where's the best place to spot landside? Last time I was there, there was an indoor area: is it still there? Is there an outside viewing deck? Finally, does anyone know of anything unusual coming to Singapore next weekend? Many thanks, VFR PS If I see the SQ and QR birds, I'll have seen all four airlines flying it already as AY and VN come to Shanghai where I'm based! EDIT: Nearly all, I forgot about TAM. They're quite far away. Has anyone seen all five on scheduled flights?

From when I went in Febuary, there's an inside observation deck landside at all three terminals located at the level above departures. The observation deck at terminal 2 and 3 aren't great since there's a second pane of glass with some shade structure thing at a distance which blocks some of the view. The observation deck at Terminal 1 is much better since you're right against the glass although some of the glass there is tinted blue. Also, the view from terminal 1 doesn't look directly onto either runway so it'll be a bit difficult to see the A350s which depart/arrive from T2/3. Personally I prefer selecting longer transit times/arriving at the airport as early as possible to spot airside and I haven tried spotting at other locations around the airport. Apparently hiring a room at the airport hotel is quite a good spotting location (as long as you don't mind paying for it!) Have fun and good luck!!

Thanks for that jkkw. I remember being quite disappointed by the indoor areas previously. I fly away Monday midday so intend to maximise my time on the outside terrace, including the mid-morning rush. :-)
I may try to get to the nearby Changi beach, seemingly under the usual morning flightpath: has anyone been to this?

Could trying to book a flight SIN-KUL (return) be a nice option too?

I never thought of doing that! Currently it's £250/$400 for the return, which seems a bit much for a one hour flight!

I wouldn't have thought it was that expensive..... I looked at it and you are right, even a one-way is well over 300.....

Compared to Oman who are charging just £55/$80 for the return! That's on an a330 too, so not even on a narrow body. I'll watch it and see if it goes down closer to the weekend.

Try a one way fare from KUL-SIN, I've heard that SQ tends to be cheaper from Malaysia. A one way fare on AirAsia or Tiger or Jetstar to get you to KUL shouldn't be too much (you'll have to switch terminals in KUL though).
