According to Yahoo's French edition, a contract for the purchase of 50 A321 (I guess -neo) was signed during Macron's visit to Qatar, together with other contracts. Though a fighter aircraft sale makes the headlines, the airliner sale is indeed mentioned. fr.news.yahoo.com/qatar-signe-lachat-dau-moins-12-rafale-50-092544497--finance.html This agreement means that the main issue that created a lasting tension between Qatar Airways and Airbus has been settled, which probably explains the recent resumption of A350 deliveries by the airline.

The balance of the QR order conversion seems to be four net orders (the previous A320neo order had been reduced to 46 units after four cancellations).

Airbus and Qatar press releases. The aircraft will be delivered from 2019 and will be in the ACF configuration
And regarding Airbus's November orders, the only order was from CDB leasing for 30 A320neo and 15 A321neo. There were no cancellations.

Bit of a blow to Pratt isn't it? Although not so much of a surprise anymore.

Bit of a blow to Pratt isn't it? Although not so much of a surprise anymore. With these changes, Pratt is certainly the only losing party. QR refused to take delivery of the first A320neo in December 2015, and did not budge later. It seems the temperature issue they raised then could not be solved to their satisfaction.

Great news! Is there is a place for a twin-isle, mid-range, airliner to challenge the A321 or can it capture so much of the market (production increase?)to replace any new model?

The DL A321 will have a P&W engine. A major win for the American manufacturer !
