Thanks for your opinions cck, I do hope though that this order has not been politically driven. CAPA reported that Malaysia Airlines is looking for replacement of 15 A330-300 coming off lease. If only 8 787s are purchased, maybe there r still room for 7+ A330neo? I'm afraid that'll be highly unlikely, in the malayinsight article I linked to, it says the order will be for 'up to 50' 787s (which I assume will mostly comprise of options and purchase rights) and adding 7 A330neos to a fleet of 6 A350s and 8 787s won't make much sense. Anyway, I'm sure the 787 will work well for the airline (but whether it was the best decision, I don't know). Peter Bellew previously had slight concerns over the range capability of the A330neo and the 789 will certainly work in helping MH reopen routes to Europe (and at a slightly smaller capacity than the A350) if that's their intention. The 787-10 will also be a great aircraft for them on flights to Asia and Australia, as long as they have the demand for it. The A350 fleet though does seem a bit small, especially once the A330s are retired in which case you only have a group of pilots for 6 aircraft. (then again, that won't be too dissimilar to their situation with the A380 where they also only have 6 aircraft)

More on MH. The 787s are -9s
And regarding the Turkish 748 rumours
How interesting. I'm starting to think that this might be more than the annual 'tk is looking at the vla again' rumour. We shall see.
On a side note, relatively, Boeing is doing really well in orders this year.

Full text from ch-aviation: "FlyYangYang (Yangyang) has confirmed it has signed a lease/purchase agreement with ICCJET for three B737-800s. According to a joint-communique, the transaction reportedly took place in July of this year. No further details were disclosed.
FlyYangYang is one of several prospective carriers looking to secure international business licenses from the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MLIT), the others being Aero K, Air Pohang, Air Daegu, and Nambu Air.
Its first submission to MLIT, in March, was rejected after the regulator said FlyYangYang's initial decision to focus on the Chinese market posed “the risk of financial instability in the early stages of operation as well as insufficient safeguards for safety and consumer convenience.”
It then revised its business plan choosing instead to serve twenty-eight international destinations in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Russia and Cambodia by 2021. It also plans to operate two domestic services; Yangyang-Jeju and Wonju-Jeju.
Despite the changes, its second filing has not succeeded in securing the start-up its licences - yet. As recently reported, MLIT deferred making a decision on FlyYangYang and Aero K's applications requesting supplementary data from the two applicants. MLIT said in its September 13 decision that it needed at least two more months to thoroughly study each proposal both in terms of business viability as well as market impact."

Another nice order for Boeing (or at this stage a loi) but once again, they're really doing well this year

A great win for Boeing ! I wonder when TK will begin to take deliveries, though. I don't think they are short of capacity now, this is for the future.
