“They need a moonshot,” said Pilarski. “They better start working on it. I’m sure they are.” I'm quite sure Boeing's board strongly disagrees with Mr Pilarski ...

Would the NMA be the way to go and not some (bigger) 737 follow on?

Boeing transfers Max workers and Spirit AeroSystems warns of staff cuts as production halt looms By Jon Hemmerdinger7 January 2020 www.flightglobal.com/boeing-transfers-max-workers-and-spirit-aerosystems-warns-of-staff-cuts-as-production-halt-looms/136030.articleBoeing has started temporarily reassigning employees affected by the pending 737 Max production halt, while major supplier Spirit AeroSystems has offered some staff the option to take “voluntary” layoffs. Chicago-based Boeing expects the production shutdown, which is to start in mid-January, will impact some 3,000 employees who support the 737 Max programme, the company says in a 6 January memo to staff. The shutdown will affect workers at Boeing’s 737 production plant in Renton, Washington, and employees elsewhere involved in activities related to fabrication, supply chain, test and technology, it says.

Would the NMA be the way to go and not some (bigger) 737 follow on? Except on some marginal (long) routes, airlines will not replace a narrowbody by a widebody. The NMA targets a different market - small widebodies - that has existed in the past (767, A300, A310) and that might be spurred by a state-of-the-art offering.
