They were supposed to get the LR from 2021 apparently but now wikipedia page says from 2019, pleasant surprise! Guess the next 4 then will all be LRs.

I do not completely understand why they do need the LR. They fly from Azores to Boston and Lisbon and any 321 should be more than enough ?
They flew those same routes even in the times they had A310s which would easily fly further.....

I do not completely understand why they do need the LR. And apart from the fact that they picked the new fuselage, I do not understand why we think they are using the -LR.

It has always been reported in local media that this frame would be an LR (hope it's not a confusion with ACF) Of course I can not guarantee that, maybe with the delivery we have some kind of official confirmation
Reason? Maybe additional flexibility. As previously discussed on the LR thread, LR can fly with only 2 ACTs as the others Azores frames and take the 3rd when needed

Overall we still do not have a simple and decise way to find out if it is ACF or ACF-LR plane, but well...... Also we have no idea how many ACTs are present.
So this is confusing for us.....

- Although the current ("regular") NEO is more than enough to fly between the Azores and Boston/Toronto, they're payload restricted due to the fact that most of the time they need fuel to divert to Lisbon (which has happened during winter time and can happen at anytime, in fact).
With the LR (and previously the A310) they could carry more cargo (which they transport a lot between the Azores and North America) without being restricted by the amount of fuel they need to take in case of diversion.

So this is confusing for us..... Fortunately, it doesn't matter much. Who is deeply interested in knowing whether the aircraft is carrying 2 or 3 ACTs ?

They might also maybe open new markets?.. Possible, but I doubt it. There is big population of original Azores in Boston area - so that is their only NA destination for years + home country..... Thanks andremp for explanation - makes sense.
