Southwest is too deep in Boeing's pocket. It will be a miracle if they ever went with Airbus.

Southwest is too deep in Boeing's pocket. It will be a miracle if they ever went with Airbus. There is no question of Southwest leaving Boeing for Airbus - that's not going to happen. The question is whether the airline's sole aircraft type policy still serves its interest best. Southwest has a large number of 737-700 in its fleet, but it doesn't seem to be enthusiastic about its same size replacement (737 MAX 7) since it has postponed most early deliveries. Common wisdom has been that the airline would upsize, replacing the 737-700 with a mix of a few 737 MAX 7 and many 737 MAX 8. It now appears that Southwest is having a look at the alternatives. Is Southwest just doing its due diligence, while making it clear to Boeing that they didn't like having to change their plans and taking flak as the launch customer of the MAX ? Is it negotiation tactics to extract more compensation from Boeing ? Is management concerned that Southwest's over-reliance on the MAX might be risky ? Or is the airline really interested in the competitive advantages an A220 sub-fleet could bring on some routes ? I would bet that this is a serious review. Airbus might find that the door is ajar ...

I could read not read the article so do not know which airline they visited ? If it was Air Baltic they have 4 more frames due for delivery shortly and also they lease out some of their aircraft.

They have a policy of very often flights earlier with 737-300 later 700 and now ? So they are ready to offer better service - more often with a smaller plane - provided the economy works ??
They also have a lot of routes to smaller places where I would imagine that to fill the 800/8 might be tough ?
As always .... we will see.
