Fliegerfaust's use of hashtags is often distasteful, hence why I simply take his word with a grain of salt. With that said, I would wait to see Airbus bring down the production costs before the -500 variant comes to light. Bringing it up during current events regarding the 737MAX is low-hanging fruit, but this article is at least 1.5 years old now. Yes, the Paris air show is coming up this summer and the timing would seem ideal, but I digress. He thinks you have to use all the characters twitter allows ! mostly his tweets are just designed to drive clicks / traffic 😉 He does sometimes get some good inside info, you just have to ignore the regurgitated # loaded ones 😀

Using the #ET302 hashtag is VERY distasteful.

AB more-less gave up A319 - it's competition and frankly it would be much better plane ! There are probably suficient R/D resources available in Canada so why not use them, it would be a pity to dismantle the team - they did decent job on those CS/A220. AB can for sure afford easily such a project. Nothing much is going on in EU - OK probably A321XLR - is a small job anyway, new Beluga is in final stages. Some refining and ?? No major project going on ! And would such a plane sell - you bett !

I think talk about a A220-500 is at least premature.
- First A220 production has to ramp up. - production cost has to come down. It would not help to increase the number of models.
The next point is, where is the crossover between a 5 across frame and a 6 across frame. Would the A220-500 be a short range frame to a A320 long range frame.
My guess one can start talking about launching an A220-500 in 2 years, if the ramp up goes well and an A220-500 would make sense.

In addition, Airbus doesn't really have any product development on the plate (XLR might be one). I do see this as a chance for new CEO's new project

Airbus may find interest in developing a five-abreast line of products in parallel with its existing six-abreast one.
Eventually, the market and cost/margin projections will provide an answer.
