I always get these entities confused...lets see what happens.. Ah ! Nothing but the name in common between Indigo Airlines (India) and Indigo Partners (a US group owning airlines in different countries). EDIT : I found a common fact ! Indigo Airlines' latest narrowbody order was for some 400 aircraft, about the same size as Indigo Partners' order at the Dubai air show (Leahy's last major coup).

So, here she is ! A new rear centre tank + a tweaked MLG + an optimised trailing edge flap configuration bring a MTOW increase and an extended range (4700 nm - 8700 km).
This is not a small change, it is a major one, opening a large array of new routes to narrowbodies. The assumed drawback is that the -XLR will be a specific subfleet, since there is no way of converting the aircraft back to a regular A321neo. As lessors don't like niche aircraft, it will be interesting to see their reaction to this product.
Let's hope that airlines will allow travellers some more legroom on the long flights !
EDIT : ALC's order (see the post above) is the first answer to my question about lessors

The programme being launched, we should now change the thread title to 'A321neo XLR'.

Regarding the tankage. 12,900 l permanent rear center tank. 1 ACT in the forward hold gives 3,080 l more. Standard tankage is 23,700 l. All together the XLR offers 39,680 l.
So the RTC volume is more than 4 ACT at 12,320 l (4 * 3080). Together it compares to having 5 ACT in a standard A321neo. Flying with the RTC only, there is more luggage or cargo space in the XLR, than in the LR with 3 ACT.
101 t MTOW, changed trailing edge and flaps, strengthened landing gear rounds out the picture.
I would be astonished if we would not see with time the new RTC in all ACJ.
