So, 28 narrowbodies (26 A320 family, 2 A220s) and 3 widebodies (2 A350s, 1 A339) were delivered in January. This is a low month, compared to average production and even to January 2019 (39 in total, including 33 A320 family, 1 A333 and 5 A359s). That's probably the price to pay for the year-end rush.
This year again, I'm going to hope for both increased deliveries and less pronounced monthly fluctuations. January figures, however, hardly support my optimism.

The low January deliveries are also caused by the 2 week years end vacation. Beside the delivery rush by flightline and delivery centers the FALs itself stop any work.

Unlike Airbus' ambitious push for more deliveries in previous years, 880 in 2020 is a remarkably conservative target. The 2020 guidance is hardly higher than the revised 2019 goal (860) and than the actual 2019 result (863), and is even slightly lower than Airbus' initial 2019 delivery goal (880 to 890) which had to be cut down in October as a result of production problems in Hamburg.
So, what we are seeing is almost a pause in a ramp-up effort, and probably an attempt at consolidation. Airbus obviously elected to prioritise permanent organisation over short-term production increase.
This isn't entirely a surprise, as Airbus already disclosed that its production problems would last until 2022, which is also the planned entry-into-service date of a new A321-capable FAL in Toulouse.

I've always thought the strategy / thought process of constant growth is one that leaves any system stressed. I think this strategy of increasing then plateau for a few years then increase again is more stable and provide for smoother increases...hopefully it cuts down on the year end rush too...
