P&W is certainly interested in developing a widebody version of the GTF. Whether they are ready to compete with Rolls' XWB engine is another question.

Two interesting things from the Spirit Aerosystems 2012 webcast: 1) Spirit delivered 4 flying middle sections and 2 non flying to St NazaireThis means that the forward fuselage parts for MSN002 and MSN004 are in St Nazaire. MSN002 will be the first A350 with a full cabin while MSN004 will mainly be used for system development. Final assembly on MSN002 might start somewhere next month. 2) MSN003 delays caused by "late breaking changes" to the structureMSN003 is 2 months behind schedule duo "late breaking changes". Airbus probably found problems during the fatigue tests which began last summer (see picture). MSN003 will be used for ultimate load tests (150%) so it has to be stronger than MSN001.

As the quote is from a podcast, there may be a misspelling. They might have mentioned 'late br eaking changes' (in that case, nothing to do with brakes).

I think we will see more -1000 sales once it reaches the design freeze this year. Delivery slots are also an unknown at the moment.

Interesting comments from AAB. He seems to be pretty sure of things. Qatar Air says Airbus to abandon smallest type of A350I think if we were to expect any update from Airbus about the future of the -800, it would be happen after they've gathered sufficient test data from the -900 test flights. And I still don't believe Airbus would ever abandon the sub-300 seat replacement for the A330. It could however be delayed. At this point in time I can't see any reason to cancel the -800. Both -800 and -1000 are not selling well but the reason for that might be: - The design has not been frozen yet. This will be done once Airbus has gathered flight data from MSN001. - Delivery slots are also an unknown for the moment. An user called Ferpe, one of the 'elite users' on airliners.net, created the following table: While the -800 will be a bit heavier than the 787-9, it still looks like an amazing aircraft if you look at this numbers.
