I knew you would bring that one up Airbus removed that order in 2011 again because AA went into Chapter 11. The order was firmed again in January this year, after the court approved the order, but without a press release. I expected at least a new press release for such a big order. Only 130 were firmed which were for the A321neo. The other 130 for the ceos are progressively being firmed by lessors soon before delivery. Have a look at Airbus orders for August and you'll see 4 A319 orders by lessors for AA. Talking about orders, Reuters is reporting that JAL is close to ordering the A350 (At this stage it seems to be much more certain than the 'may order' rumours at the beginning of the year) www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/06/us-airbus-japan-idUSBRE9950KP20131006If this order goes through it will be a great deal for Airbus, finally being able to open up the Japanese market and I believe it will be the first time JAL itself orders an Airbus aircraft (they previously operated the A300 but only due to it's merger with JAS). Hopefully John Leahy can also put a few A380s in there (I'm dreaming, I know) and sell some A350s to ANA. Edit; Order confirmed with 18 A359s and 13 A351s and 25 options with delivery from 2019. This will make JAL the 6th largest A350 Order after Qatar(80), Singapore Airlines(70), Emirates(70), Cathay Pacific(46) and United(35). www.airbus.com/newsevents/news-events-single/detail/airbus-and-japan-airlines-sign-their-first-ever-order/#

I would not lump together firm orders and options ... That is like counting your chickens before they hatch.
