thepointsguy.com/news/lufthansa-a380-returns-june-munich/There will be three A380s being returned to service, flying out of Munich hub by summer next year. And there will be more coming back. How many will be eventually brought back is not yet known. Personally, I'm hoping for 8, as 6 are being sold to AIB.

Three are less than at least four that had been announced. Is one damaged beyond economic repair? There is not only the hail damage issue but the not publicly known financial agreement with Boeing about delayed 777-9 seat compensation. My guess is the main reason to reduce the number are lower capacity needs: China has new covid restrictions so long range travel to Asia might be weaker than anticipated plus the US and Europe might face some recession in 23 with companies and tourists saving on travel. The LH A380 is about A LOT of economy seats in the first place while business class is slightly outdated.

Spohr said during the press conference that the A380s will remain in service until the A350-1000s and 777-9s are coming. “But probably even Boeing itself doesn’t know when these will be delivered.”
The fleet plan sees 4 active this summer. 6 A380s will be returned to Airbus by November, out of 10 that are temporarily decommissioned. A note says 2 will be added in 2024. This leaves 2 in storage for which no decision has been made. The 747-8 will stay, as their premium and cargo yields are excellent.

AFAIK the plan is for four active this year, not this summer.
