Agree, my calculation shows that by the end of year 2024, BA will have 6 less long haul frames (A380+B777+A35K+B78K) than they have now, when all 744s are retired. And BA has 7 options on their book, so I expect them simply to convert these options into firm orders, probably with even cheaper price tag on them.

I've just heard the reason that BA decided to go for new frames rather than buying those second hands, is because they realised the reconfiguration cost to their standard world be so high (especially for those early frames), it's not worth doing it.
I wonder whether this would apply to more early birds (like MH frames, the obvious target for BA) than we originally thought? That would mean that it would be really difficult to resell any second hand frames, and is that why EK was worry about the value of second hand frames during the negotiation?
Anyway, love to see more new frames to be built, and airlines keep them longer than selling them quickly.

I supposed the onboard bar and shower will remain on early EK frames then even they go to other airlines. That would be nice

I always thought BA was actually trying to get better prices for new A380s.

A third runway at LHR is not coming soon. So bigger aircraft might make sense to BA, that had operated a huge 747 fleet which is retired. Having said that BREXIT might weaken LHR demand for some time to come. So maybe it's still not the perfect moment to grow airplane sizes for BA?
