"New" means beta. PIP is the new "new".

As the second half of the year kicks in, flight activity increases: - Pegasus 1st A320neo first flight imminent & delivery this month - IndiGo 5th A320neo already flying & delivery this month - Lufthansa's 3rd A320neo already flying & delivery this month - China Southern 1st A320neo first flight today, delivery might happen this month - Frontier 1st A320neo runway tests And now another P&W frame takes to the skies for the first time: MSN 7078 (LH #4): fr24.com/AIB078A/a45105b

What does it say? Subscription is required to read the article. You just have to register. It says mainly that a fix is in and a more extensive fix due in the autumn. They talked about additional problems in the hydraulic, because of the high temperature of the P&W engine reducing the the operation to below an ambient temperature of 50°C. The autumn fix should lift that to 55°C.

I thought I have read somewhere that Airbus just certified it for 50 and going to 55 is a no brainer.

According to A320 programme manager Klaus Roewe (per the Flightglobal report above) :
1. PW1100G’s start-up time :
- A 'tiny' modification to the PW1100G’s shaft and compressor reduces the start-up time 'substantially'. - Another tweak, due to take place in the autumn, will reduce the start-up time to match that of the current A320. - "Everything is easily retrofittable, and there are retrofit plans agreed with customers".
2. Spurious failure messages :
- A separate 'headache' emerged, the generation of spurious failure messages within the cockpit ; now, with a new software (FADEC) version, 'the problem is behind us'.
3. Higher engine temperatures :
- Another problem, related to higher engine temperatures, affected the A320neo’s hydraulic system. - The problem, which was belatedly uncovered during flight-testing, led Airbus initially to limit the aircraft to an ambient temperature of 50C, which threatened to restrict the type’s operation in hot climates. - The limit now has been raised to 55C, which Roewe says should be sufficient for the aircraft to cope easily with any Middle Eastern environment, with 'no overheat' of the hydraulic system.
4. Aircraft fuel burn, weight and noise :
- The 15% fuel-burn saving has been verified, and the jet is 150kg lighter than its target weight at launch. - The A320neo’s noise-contour footprint at London Heathrow is less than half the 1.8km² figure for its predecessor.
5. Production ramp-up :
- Attention is now focused on ramping up production to address the A320neo backlog. The A320neo ramp up and delivery schedule is expected to be back on track in Q2 H2 this year. - Airbus hiking monthly A320 production rates to 46 this year is confirmed.
6. Other issues :
Tom Williams adds that the creation of an A320neo cabin-fitting zone at Toulouse will allow Airbus to cut the number of ferry flights during production, generating 'big productivity benefits' for the programme.
A321neo certification efforts could be complete by the end of this year.
My own comments : The 50C ambient temperature cap probably explains why QR rejected the first deliveries, while LH accepted to become the launch customer. The second tweak being promised no sooner than September may still lead some customers not to take delivery until Q4.

Thank you, spotterxfw ! It's going to be tough to tell the engine type when the aircraft is in the distance.
