See-through brainsScientists have come up with a way to make whole brains transparent, so they can be labelled with molecular markers and imaged using a light microscope. The technique, called CLARITY, enabled its creators to produce the detailed 3D visualisations you see in this video. It works in mouse brains and human brains; here the team use it to look into the brain of a 7-year-old boy who had autism. on YouTube

Fascinating stuff indeed! I like how they can trace the entire length of a single neuron through the whole lot of them. A very promising research tool. And the transparent mouse brain looked weird.

Awesome technology! They've built some of the fastest planes and trains...add sailboats now!

Not an aircraft but almost. This is a sailing yacht which has wings which lift most of the hull out of the water resulting in greatly reduced drag. This boat was able to travel at over 50 kts just by wind power! Research programs on this kind of technologies have been going on in France for some 25 years, pioneered by famous ocean racer Eric Tabarly, with support from Dassault and French military shipyards (DCN). The effort has been extremely challenging, and I am glad that a new generation seems about to demonstrate success.

Going to Mars
I witnessed landing man on the moon (Armstrong & Aldrin in the Eagle, Collins surrounding the moon, mission Apollo 11) live at public viewing on Trafalgar Square in London among 100000 people. This was the greatest thing ever for mankind. There was nothing comparable after.
I'm afraid I will miss this event.

I found the Blades of glory article from early 2012 in the Aerospace Insight Blog. It is covering Rolls-Royce return to composite fan blade.
