Alitalia will take delivery ex-Austral 77W as earlier planned: www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/56251-alitalia-retains-plan-to-deploy-b777-300er-in-3q17"Alitalia (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) will take delivery of its maiden B777-300(ER) during the third quarter of the year as planned, one of the carrier's three state-appointed commissioners has disclosed. Speaking to the AdNKronos news agency this week, Luigi Gubitosi said: "The new B777-300(ER) will enter the fleet in mid-August, as planned. The aircraft is not yet available to the company but will be once it has undergone retrofitting." The ch-aviation aircraft database indicates the aircraft in question is EI-WLA (msn 35783), formerly F-ONOU with Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion). Leased from AerCap, it is currently at Lourdes/Tarbes. Gubitosi was responding to reports in Italian media this week that claimed the aircraft's arrival had been abandoned owing to Alitalia's uncertain future. Once in service, it will be used to develop routes to South America - Buenos Aires Ezeiza in particular. Alitalia entered into extraordinary administration earlier this month following a workforce decision to reject a management-proposed restructuring plan. The ailing carrier is currently surviving on an EUR600 million bridging loan extended to it by the Italian government, enough to last it six months. As it stands, Rothschild will lead the search for a buyer for the distressed airline beating out Mediobanca, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, and Lazard. On May 17, a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) in Alitalia was issued with non-binding offers due by June. In July-August, non-binding bids will be required followed by binding bids in September and October. In a bid to cut mounting costs, Alitalia's commissioners have begun the process of leaning down the airline's 12,500-strong workforce. This week, it announced it had sent a letter to trade union organizations and the relevant ministries for the opening of a technical unemployment procedure, with "an application limited initially to the operational and management needs of the company". The procedure will affect 828 ground staff and up to 190 flight- and 340 cabin-crew. "This measure, made necessary by the company's current situation, is part of a package of measures that Alitalia is taking to reduce all costs and thus make the company more economically viable," the group said. The three directors responsible for managing the company and deciding on its future are seeking, among other things, to reduce fuel and leasing costs for part of the fleet by means of renegotiated contracts."
