Those mighty engines! You could hang the fuselage cross sections of an MD-80 on the wings and those engines would still be wider!

I once read they are the same diameter as a 737-fuselage. Think it was written in the Holland Herald, KLM's inflight magazine, at the time the 777 was introduced in KLM's fleet.

The fuselage cross sections are ovoid however. MD-80 - 3.36m x 3.61m 737 - 3.76m x 4.01m Width of a GE90-115B is 3.96m
