This was the case already last year if you look on MSN 77, 79, 81. MSN 89 was just 4 months. I think you may be missing something these frames were fast tracked past frames MSN 47, 60, 63, 69, 70, 72, 76, 78 ! Off course, but the past ones are QR and CX only and MSN 89 was not a years end miracle one and was even faster. From MSN 81 to 85, there was another 2 week jump for the time between S50 to P18.

If there is great urgency to get the 1st Delta frame out before other frames then yes they could do it in 4 months. On the one hand, this is a head of version (the first DL A350, featuring a configuration Airbus has never built before), which takes more time to complete. On the other hand, we don't know what DL is asking Airbus to do. There may be a delivery date that DL wants Airbus to meet.

We do know that the customization on A350 is similar to the one on A330 i.e. Delta has A330s so it should not be such problem.....

We have read - and heard from Airbus that they did learned their lesson and that the level of customization as is on A380 will not be repeated. One of the reason why to take second hand A380 and modify it to the standard of other operator would be quite complicated....
We do know that to replace all the seating on A330 takes around 10 days i.e. it will probably take longer on A350 but I am pretty sure that there are not the changes in the cabling and other significant components as are on A380.

Should we move the discussion to the Production thread?

Should we move the discussion to the Production thread? It would fit there better

Moved here, had to do a slight modification to tris06 by adding MSN115 (Delta) in the beginning of his post so conversation can make sense.

I see that on the production list the MSN numbers for the first planed AA 350 have been dropped. I know that AA has deferred those frames. But is it completely clear that those MSN numbers will be cancelled and not just deferred? Airbus is known for not producing in a row according to MSN numbers.
