There seem to be more activity with the stored-frames than non-stored frames There will be a time when an A380 is "just another aircraft".... What a wicked thing to say

Actually I don't think this would ever happen..... Concorde stayed all the way Concorde and even now, same for the 747... I'll expect A380 to follow the same path, it'd always be standing out of all others...

was not expecting that, Could it be that Airbus has coated the entire aircraft in primer for protection against weather? and also took advantage in painting an anonimous blue on the fin..? Yes, that is exactly what has happened. A Qantas aircraft also had this primer applied as the aircraft was temporarily in storage a380.boards.net/post/3032/threadA question i raised a while back why Qantas and at least one Emirates frame were in that same primer during the early years. Forum activity was minimal, or non-existent at that time, so there was no clue as to when the frames acquired that primer, or even why multiple frames were similarly 'inactive ( ?) at the same time

a380.boards.net/post/24404/threadI haven't seen any picture of MSN015QF MSN016EK or MSN026QF with a green primer fuselage before the pictures with the brownish coat, I'd then think the brownish coat would have been applied after assembly and before roll out. A hint, I have pictures of MSN016 taken near TLS at convoy-arrival and these pieces were green...

I'd have been surprised if it was applied pre-TLS Considering the miriad greens the sections arrive in, I can't see manufacturers being handed a communal pot. Coming back to this thread, I suppose it's a case of how temporary this primer is. MSN002 was never in this state so can't be used as a benchmark. As always on the forum 'watch this space' - I vote for long-term storage either on the flight line or in the hangars, depending on what space is needed when. Mind you, when will Emirates start to divest itself of the older frames? The Skymark 'almost new' frames might be attractive then.

Is it a sufficiently difficult/expensive procedure to become a significant show stopper?

Everton44 posted in the MSN016 thread that the Qantas frame was delayed due to it being the first 'wave 2' frame. Either way, it seems that it was only temporary Perhaps it's more to do with the properties (short term?) of the green primers, rather than an indication of what the tan primer means time-wise. Apart from a cocoon, I imagine we are in a short/long term situation, rather than a hibernation.
