hmm, somehow the newly introduced SYD-DFW A380 rotation seems to experience some serious teething troubles: QF8, operated by VH-OQE has just left LAX after being diverted. Here is the explanation for the diversion of QF8 in LAX. There were no issues with the aircraft or any medical emergency but just to accomodate passengers that were left behind on QF12 flight since it was operated by a B744 as 2 A380 were mobilized on the DFW route following the pump issue: www.theqantassource.com/qantas-a380-vh-oqe-qf8-los-angeles-diversion/I don't know if Qantas has currently one A380 bird off service due to long maintenance and/or winf fix but if not, it looks like they could make use of an extra A380 in their fleet as one incident has a lot of impacts in their long haul widebodies operations

What I wonder is: has Qantas more A380 reliability issues than other airlines? The last few months have been ok, but last Spring and early Summer I noticed a fair number of flights being delayed by tech issues. I don't know the exact date, but dual fuel pump problems made an A380 return to LAX this Spring. There was an issue in April with an engine of departure from Dubai, another aircraft was stuck at London Heathrow. Ofcourse other airlines have there issues too (you never hear about China Southern...), but could it be that Qantas - being tight on cash - is delaying maintenance to the limit? Or do there A380's are prone the problems as the fly the longest routes?

As is mentioned in the Wing Fix section, Qantas OQI is in Manila since September 22 for wing repairs. Thanks a lot a380fanclub; this is what I thought but I couldn't find the info when I posted I don't know the exact date, but dual fuel pump problems made an A380 return to LAX this Spring. Here is a link to info on this incident that took place on Apr 17th. I had referred to it in my reply to Philidor yesterday about his point about the need to return to SYD on the most recent fuel pump incident avherald.com/h?article=4731f263&opt=0There was an issue in April with an engine of departure from Dubai, another aircraft was stuck at London Heathrow. Ofcourse other airlines have there issues too (you never hear about China Southern...), but could it be that Qantas - being tight on cash - is delaying maintenance to the limit? Or do there A380's are prone the problems as the fly the longest routes? I do not know if Qantas has more incidents per hours flown on the type although you are right there has been quite a few lately. Emirates which has roughly 5 times more A380 than Qantas, does not seem to have that many incidents advertised everywhere. But may be they have incidents but having a larger fleet, they are less visible / less "interesting" for the media. I think that because of the distances Qantas is flying, each delay makes the news may be more than any other airline. However, playing with delaying maintenance for cash reasons could have much worse consequences financially speaking especially that Qantas fly on so long distance routes. My point earlier on Qantas which could make use of an extra A380 was also linked to the fact that lately, Qantas has retired several B747 + this A380 undergoing wing fix could leave them with no much backup plans.

...maybe one day they'll take the remaining frames especially as they retire 747-400s (but I doubt it). Have a nice weekend! Only financial trouble prompted QF to defer deliveries, but the airline is now healing quickly. I think QF needs all the A380s it ordered, and I expect it to resume deliveries as scheduled.

#13 and #14 were (and I hope still are?) scheduled for FY2016/2017, #15 to #20 in FY2018/2019
