RR claims a 10 % improvement in SFC over Trent 700.
"The 68-72,000lb thrust Trent 7000 will deliver significant performance benefits compared to the current version of the Trent 700. It will improve specific fuel consumption by ten per cent; have twice the bypass ratio; and will halve noise".
I am not sure how this compares with early predictions, but it seems to be in line with what was planned, since with aero improvements (increased span, new wingtips) and a few additional seats, the A330neo is expected to have a 15 % better CASM than the A330ceo.

Yes 10% is a good figure. However, this figure is baselined off of the original T700 and does not include any PIPs. So the difference with an 2015 A330 T700 will be less (which is not bad thing, because the A330neo will replace older A330s and not new ones).

When the A330 was launched it was 10% against the than current T700 and that should have at least been the T700EP. And as both EP and EP2 are partly retrofitable, T700 and newer versions are exchangable and RR power by the hour includes upgrades, the 10% difference could than not even be insured against older birds. IMO we should take the 10% against the T700EP2.

I understood it in the same way as mjoelnir did. The press release specifically says "current version of the T700" which leads me to believe that a current iteration as opposed to the "original version" of the T700 is used as the benchmark.

I thought FAL meant joining the big bits up ? Not just milling one small aluminium block ! So entry to FAL of the first A330 Neo MSN 1795 will be Sept 2016 ish MSN 1710 ish is in FAL now.
