Did I understood that correctly .. The A330neo has more orders so far than the 787 has since its first introduction in 2004?

Did I understood that correctly .. The A330neo has more orders so far than the 787 has since its first introduction in 2004? I understood it differently. I think Mr. Leahy said, since the launch of the A330 NEO, it has outsold the 787. not in total units sold, but from the date of the NEO launch.

I think he meant to say that there were more A330's (neo and ceo combined) sold than 787s since the date the 787 was launched

Carl is right, the A338/9 has outsold the 787 for many years.
When the Boeing programme appeared to be in jeopardy and years late, many airlines decided to edge their bets and ordered A330s. That period came to an end when Boeing eventually managed to ramp up 787 production.
Airbus however launched new A330 versions (a higher MTOW version, a regional version) and secured many Chinese orders by promising to create a completion center in China. Eventually, Airbus launched the A338/9, intensifying competition.
At least in 2015 and 2016, the -ceo and -neo versions have gained together more orders than the 787.

The 787 had pulled slightly ahead (from launch date), but the A330 caught up again the last three years and passed again.
