It might well be a "firm order subject to government agreement", a type of contract which is usual in China, unless government agreement already has been granted, in which case it might be a firm order. Let's wait for the press release.

Just wondering, if this order along with the series of MAX orders by china dampens the prospects of the rumoured A330 mega-order?

I don't think narrowbody announcements are related to the A330 project. I would guess the Chinese may want to know about the A330 NEO before making a decision ...

I think it's a MoU, just like that China Eastern order from March. They are all firm orders, but still need authority to 'approve', a matter of time.

This should be a QR related order, such as : more A350s, or firming up 3 A380 options (in accordance with AAB's assertion that his airline has 13 A380s on order).
