Normally I don't think that is the case especially if the leases are for the long term. The only case I know of where the lessor controls the seating arrangement is Amedeo's A380 order which I think is partially due to how long it takes to reconfigure an A380 cabin. with just 3 frames left, time to order a few more ! I understand that the seating configurations can be varied. But I was referring to the technical configurations concerning, say for example, the equipment, weight variant type, crew rests and other stuff like IFE, connectivity and comms. Are these standardised? Aircraft configuration is more than just about seats, is it not? ILFC will look towards adding more frames indeed. There's going to be a long wait, though.

I have this gut-feeling ILFC will reorder only after being 99.9 % sure they will be able to place them with "interested parties" What lessors usually do is order on speculation, but negociate a right to defer deliveries, or change the order to an other type, if they don't find a lessee. What might hold ILFC from a top up order is possible doubts on future market values, especially if Airbus launches a NEO.

Lessors (and airlines too) do prefer a relatively cheap reconfiguration, it's one of the main reason why the A350 has standardized galleys and overhead bins etc.

I think it's a MoU, just like that China Eastern order from March.
