At last a picture, no 3 engine is still a jet.

Really excited for this project. I really think this will bring about the most tangible step change in fuel efficiency in the years to come. Airbus should wait on pulling the A320neo replacement till this has been matured.

Frankly I don't believe in battery powered airliners. Regional aircraft? Maybe. Big ones? Not. Batteries are not good enough even with huge improvements that are hoped for. Kerosene is so much more weight efficient for the same energy stored.
It might still be a way to separate jet engines for just the electrical power generation and electrical propellers, impellers and such on the wings or wherever.

Airbus should wait on pulling the A320neo replacement till this has been matured. This is just a research project ... There is a push for 'clean' energies - though electricity production induces a pollution of its own - but we are quite far from electric airliners, as pointed out by Airboche.

It is just that the E-FANX is not about an all battery powered frame. It is about testing electrical components and testing hybrid solutions. The main power still coming from fuel, but being more efficient. You can perhaps reclaim the power needed to climb in descend and perhaps shut down a turbine in flight used only in climb. Think about an APU driving a electric fan in climb, while it is driven by a jet engine in cruise and the APU type engine is shut down.
It is very easy to always claim not believing in new technology, before checking what is actually tested.

I am very much believing in new technology but I reserve the right to come to some different conclusion than the "season's fashion". Batteries won't work for airliners. And that is valid for a long time to come. Possibly nuclear power would work instead from a pure technology viewpoint?
