The whole situation with Skymark is interesting and UNIQUE. Up to today they had "only" 31 737-800. That is ALL. Those two 330 are their FIRST two widebodies + the 380 will arrive shortly. All the other customers for 380 are already well established airlines with dozens of widebodies in their fleet.

And they go for a premium-heavy configiration, essentially a comfortable economy-plus A380 ! Using the whalejet, they are evolving from a low-cost carrier to a premium airline ! They obviously believe their low-cost structure + an ambitious product will allow them to prevail vs NH and JL.

I'm cringing right now. Of all the airlines out there, Skymark is one who really cannot afford to lose credibility amongst its customers.

Bad news: the introduction of Airbus widebodies in Japan has been delayed again, now scheduled to commence on June 14th. zipanguflyer.blogspot.jp/2014/05/skymark-delays-airbus-a330-launch-again.htmlThe problems with certification and so on for the A330, the ominous problems of the first A380 during prduction... This Skymark/Airbus endeavor is certainly not good publicity for future Airbus activity in Japan.

This Skymark/Airbus endeavor is certainly not good publicity for future Airbus activity in Japan. My guess would be that it just takes them longer to fly Airbus planes and did underestimate government processes for the certification etc. All previous A380 operators had already other Airbus model experience where they only needed an "upgrade" to the new model instead of learning everything from zero. I would assume Skymark asked for the A380 to be delayed but it should not be a problem with the plane itself to be the reason. I hope they will make it now on June 14th for the A330 and later this year have the processes in place to introduce the A380 without delays :-)

Awesome news! Hopefully they're successful in their business model. But why no IFE?
