But why move all test aircraft from Mirabel to TLS, when both CSeries sub-types are fully certified ? Airbus has no need to conduct any additional CSeries test programme, and the test aircraft are hardly going to be used, except for occasional tests, air shows and sales support. I would understand the transfer of one bird of each sub-type for sales support, not the whole fleet. The mid-term plan is to operate two FALs, one in Mirabel and, at a later stage, a second one in Mobile. Production tests are performed on production sites, there is adequate staff to that purpose. More broadly, why would Airbus uselessly alienate its Canadian staff ? EDIT : CSeries discussions should take place in a CSeries thread, not in a BBD thread anymore. I don't think moving the test fleet to TLS should cause that much controversy. For one thing, TLS can be the one stop 'showroom' for all models Airbus offers for sale and customers don't have to go to another location to evaluate the CSeries. Also, Airbus has a much larger R&D and flight test division than BBD. They may want to carry out their own series of tests in the near term to understand the aircraft better and develop improvements. We see this a lot with their other aircraft like the A350. Installing and swapping test gear is a complicated thing in itself and moving them between TLS and Mirabel would only add to that. As for BBD's experienced test pilots and engineers, Airbus can try move them to TLS to join the various other nationalities already on their team of test personnel.

I don't think moving the test fleet to TLS should cause that much controversy. Airbus' first priority should be to elicit trust from its Canadian workforce. Experience strongly suggests that success in mergers and acquisitions hinges on a moderate, respectful attitude from the new owner. Moving the test fleet - probably a subject of pride among the CSeries team - could be seen as a predatory attitude drawing some negative fallout.

The current first turboprop. The CL44J for example did take 189 passengers.

The Mirabel buildings and the FAL are 100% owned by a special-purpose company owned by Airbus (50,01%) and minority shareholders (BBD and, if I remember correctly, Quebec public shareholders). Any remaining BBD activity would be subject to an agreement with Airbus. With full control of all ex-CSeries activities, Airbus is set to improve the supply chain, cut supply costs, speed up production and boost sales. In five years, Airbus will have the option to buy out all minority shares, at market price. If Airbus does not exercise that option, then BBD may exercise a sale option. BBD's bet is that in five years their stake in the company will have an increased value.

Thanks philidor! In my mind Bombardiers's main place for building airplanes was always in Mirabel and not in Toronto. But I guess that has changed now.
