Given the current level of discounts, Boeing and Airbus could pretty well freeze aircraft prices for several years.
Customers however would fight to keep their previous rates of discount, so it is more easy for manufacturers to increase list prices, and not to touch the discounts.

We know that the list prices are meaningless, but the cannot be said about the price increases. Year on year the average price of the aircraft sold after discounts still have to increased to account for a variety of factors like inflation, strong market demand etc. But we don't see it this year probably because of the supply glut.

I think Boeing wants to send the market the message that this year they need sales and they are ready to offer deals.

Up to that I DO BELIEVE that the discounts are going to be even bigger - maybe not on the 787 but for sure on 777 + 737 not speaking about the 747 which is a lost cause anyway.

Well with their accounting methods and US Gov military funding they could probably do 5 or 6 projects at the same time

Boeing has now abandoned customer codes for all types in production. So it's just 737-800 for both e.g. American and United.
FedEx gets 767-300F, USAF tankers are 767-200C etc.etc.

The Airbus one is simpler and reveals aircraft model, type, generation and engines at a quick glance.
