Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance, a kind of wet leasing.

Also from the above Flightglobal piece : "Several sources tell FlightGlobal that Airbus is working behind the scenes to craft a secondary deal. Airbus confirms that it is confident in the secondary market for the aircraft type". I could see Airbus offering an attractive package including both new and used A380s,tailored to one specific operation.

Quite an interesting article from Bloomberg talking with Dr Peters (who owns 4 of the SQ A380s coming off lease) about their options for those four aircraft. A few points from the article - Their CEO says they're talking with 6 potential buyers which interestingly include an Asian LCC who may fit it out in a 700 seat single class configuration
- Some customers are considering 2-4 year leases to evaluate the aircraft with the option to take a further 5 year lease on the aircraft
- They'd prefer to lease out the aircraft but may sell it if that's what the customer want
- Marketing of the aircraft is being conducted in conjunction with Airbus and Doric
Their CEO says there are few engine spare parts and parting out the first one or two aircraft is an option (and is financially viable)

I assume the special wiring on these first of the line A380s makes them less attractive than later models?

... And the lack of second-hand parts makes parting the aircraft out a surprisingly valuable option. From the same article :
- "The double-deckers could be 'parted out' to recover engines and other spares worth at least $100 million per plane, according to German fund manager Dr. Peters, which owns four A380s".
- "An A380 could yield up to $120 million in components".
These estimates compare to :
"[These] A380s [...] had an original list price of about $250 million when they were bought, before discounts".
Should we believe these part-out estimates ? I have some doubts ... Yet, this is an occurrence when having four engines (to sell) is an advantage to the owner !

Just another point about Dr Peters' A380s. In the above piece they are quoted as saying that they had rather lease the aircraft than sell it or part it out. Is it because they get a yearly management fee ?

It is weird. He says basically that to scrape the A380 is possibly better deal than to sell a working plane UFF !
As always.... we will see
