I understand that today BA retires its last two 747s. Cameras at the ready stealthmanbob in horrible weather this morning at least. CIVB to Kemble and CIVY to St Athan. There are still 9 BA B747s at Cardiff which need to fly out to recycling sites.

Thanks for the photos and video. I'll have to check my records which may or may not hold the reg. nos. but I might have flown on that frame at some stage years ago. The trouble with the BA747 fleet was that when I last used one 3yrs ago it was so delapidated it was embarassing; a state that other major airlines I rate seem to avoid.

Radio 4's UK 'Untold' programme has just run a 30 minute programme (began at 11a.m.) about the last B747 descent into Cotswold Airport.Very nicely done, very British, lovely commentary...quite emotional: 'Spreedbird 400 shutting down engines for a final time'.
Do try.

Well, here's one way to speed up the process of "ending an era":
EDIT: VP-BMS is an A340, could be VQ-BMS

I can definitely state without fear of contradiction that this is an inside job.

The photos of the 747SP appeared on JACDEC on October 28 but the date it was written off is two months earlier. Lake Charles, LA was hit by Hurricane Delta on October 9, but that was "only" a category 2. On August 27 Delta was preceded by Laura. That was a category 4 hurricane and that's the one that destroyed the 747SP VQ-BMS.
