Unlike Boeing with their 787, which has interchangeable engine mounts, all other aircraft have different engine mounts for each engine manufacturer. Actually, it's more accurate to say that Boeing required RR & GE to provide identical engine mounts, so that aircraft could be easily swapped among airlines and if the airline accepted an aircraft with GE engines, but normally used RR, then all they had to do was drop the GE engine and install a RR and reprogram the engine controls. MSN 4, 7 & 9 all originally had Rolls Royce engines which were subsequently changed to Engine Alliance engines. But I believe that it took quite a bit of rework to the wings and engine mounts and I believe that Emirates got quite a discount for the modified MSNs 7 & 9. This situation is experience for Airbus. In the future, if a crazy man or girl, owner of toy airline, orders an A380, will be made only after verify who the buyer is. You know who is LH, BA, AF, EK, you know Qatar and UAE, they have a lot of money, but, who is Skymark? it's a toy airline low cost, that has B737 for domestic flights in a small country, can they buy an A380, in all situation, i think: No.

I am amazed by some of the comments upthread, asserting that BC either does not want this aircraft type anymore or cannot finance it ! This is pure fantasy ! Have no doubt, BC has secured funding for its A380 purchases. At this stage, aircraft have been built, BC already has had huge progress payments be paid to Airbus, obviously by some banking institution, so definitely there is no funding problem. It is also too late to back out of the deal, BC would suffer huge losses. BC is not a bankrupt company, it is a going concern! The frames cannot just be transferred to another buyer, they are reserved for BC, which has ordered them, and they are going to be stored until building can be resumed. What has happened is a problem with some buyer furnished equipment (BFE), which can be long lead items. We don't know which equipment is concerned, but I am not surprised that a new supply takes several months ... This is unfortunate, but errors do happen (would you have believed the A380 programme could be endangered by wiring issues?). I suppose BC hoped the problem could somehow be fixed without rejecting the supply (hence the transfer to XFW), but Airbus determined there was no way to do that safely (remember that sentence in BC's explanations). Of course, Airbus is not going to comment on a customer's blunders ... One point may have been omitted by BC, though : the delay may be useful to them, if they are struggling to get ready to start the A380 operation. Well, what you think now? At it time, 1 month ago, Airline and Airbus said: "problems with interiors cabin". Now, i have a question, about QR problems, are they true or is another airline without money for pay. Now, when you (Airline) don't have money for pay, well, you have problems with interiors cabin... Why EK interior cabins always are good? well they have money for pay their airplanes.

Japanese press agency bloomberg_co_jp reports that Airbus and Skymark have agreed to cancel the order for 6 A380's on July 28. It had become impossible for the airline to operate the type. Discussions about compensation and clauses are ongoing. Other reports say Airbus declines to comment, except that duscussions are ongoing. Skymark was unwilling to publicly discuss the issue. Everyone knew that Skymark was unable to operate the A380, the only ones who knew were his policies, they had to wait for 2 units they manufactured them to cancel the order. Irrsponsable airline.

Airbus wrongly trust in a customer does not have the natural profile of an operator of the A380 and see what happens. Now all production became a mess. I think Transaero could take 2 units already built or maybe Emirates as a gift for saving the A380 program.

This was coming. All customers of A380 are airline banner and rich, some even supported by the governments of their countries of origin. Skymark meets none of those requirements. It's like you expect to sell your Bentley whom all life has a Volkswagen Golf.
There aren't currently low cost airlines rich for operate the A380, until that happens, the A380 will remain a luxury aircraft, EK, EY, QR, SQ...

So this is the new EY livery? Then I wonder what on earth they are doing with EY#1... It's starting to look like MSN166 will get a special livery. I don't think so, when msn 170 tail show its colors, EY put in its FB with others special livey and people write about it. I think they want know what think people about it, but the livery of the MSN 166, 170 and 176 is the same. Why you need a special livery, when you have a new one for all new planes?

EY buy the most expensive plane in the market, spends a lot of money in its interior cabins, but, want save money in its paint, EY want paint it themselves in AUH, i can understand it with an A320 of low cost airline, but, with the flagship of a luxury airline, i think is ridiculous. I think it has to do with keeping the new paint scheme secret! Well, they will have a new livery, however, we love the airplanes and visit this page and other sites to see news every day, but many people do not care about it, they will ask in the year 2022, ... Etihad has new livery? if the reazon for no paint is the secret, EY can paint an older plane for practice painting and present to the public new image or the A380 can fly at night from Hamburg to AUH. If they want paint a new plane, can do it with the B787, it costs is half of A380 price, and EY will have like 70 B787, and only 10 A380. The A380 is the jewel in the crown, EY wait 5 years doing its interior, EY doing every thing very good with this plane, but, the last point, the paint, they want practice painting in the hangar in AUH, it's ridiculous. If the problem is that new livery is not ready yet, EY can wait 1 month more for delivey, QR takes 1 year making lies for no pay its A380, i think EY don't have problem with 1 month more for delivey. i think, A380 isn't for play, if Mr Hogan needs practice painting, he can paint his car, but not this plane, is the flagship of the Airline. You put every option in your new Mercedes Benz S65 AMG W222, pay 250.000 EUR for it, and go to your garage to practice painting it.

Germanwinks take its, the delivery flight from a plane was unpainted (green. Painted by Germanwings. get is cheaper to have paid for the old paint and Airbus had bought before the old paint must be planed who have taken the plane unpainted EY buy the most expensive plane in the market, spends a lot of money in its interior cabins, but, want save money in its paint, EY want paint it themselves in AUH, i can understand it with an A320 of low cost airline, but, with the flagship of a luxury airline, i think is ridiculous.

i'm very worried with QR frames, what is really the problem? A7-APA was storage like four months in Hamburg wait for new Airport open in Doha, and nobody can see the problems with it plane? what is the difference for example between interiors QR an EK, because Airbus can do 50 planes for EK and have problems for do 1 for QR, i don't understand.

I think, this livery will be the standard livey of EY, look this pic of MSN 166 www.flickr.com/photos/xfwspotter/14420164197/ and you can see the tail with the same colors. I think MSN 166 will be paint completed in the new color from Hamburg, you can not buy a new Bentley in base color for try to paint it after in your house.
