Boeing can also lease the aircraft to Transaero. Last year ABC leased an 748F via Boeing Capital Corporation, the lease arm of The Boeing Company. But this would be conventional deal without "creative arrangement". I believe that something like Philidor writes is more probable. We know that Transaero is short of cash - it got state loan to survive. We know there is much less tourists than last year. We know they have 13 pcs 744 active + 5 744 stored 1-3/2015. They have 14x777 + 18x767 The one 748 is not going to be important in fulfilling their needs.

UN is scheduled to take 2 this year, the second one should be exiting the FAL in the next couple of months I believe. When the Russian economy tanked, there were reports of Boeing talking with UN, but at that time, it was stated they were not talking about any changes for at least the first two frames in terms of deferral. I also agree it seems a good sign that the tail is prepped for the livery. We shall simply have to wait and see I suppose.

I believe there are also other considerations: -UN paid already a lot of money in advance -Boeing is not able to sell the frames to someone else - so they are happy to get at least something with a perspective the Russian goverment will get some sense and the economy will in time stabilize so the payments will come later.
I would call: to minimize the loss.

Russian engineers were involved with parts of the 747-8 new wing and fuselage design at the Boeing design center Moscow so there might be some increased political goodwill to still make this happen.
Transaero is a very good airline but all russian companies have to face some weakened russian currency and demand. It can't be easy for them. I hope their market improves soon.

Maybe they should have thought about their economy before taking over parts of another country !

I agree with the political statement. But Transaero is a private company that certainly hasn't been asked before.

Maybe they should have thought about their economy before taking over parts of another country ! I think this is a political statement which you should/could post anywhere, but not on this board.....
If talking about Transaero NOT taking up aircraft (B748 - A380) I'd personally like to see remarks on the production/cancellation of those aircraft, or re-configuring for other airlines, parts used for other planned orders, etc
But: that's just my two cents/pennies/rubles

But you do have to consider geo political matters when selling or (giving) away an aircraft which would make a big political statement in Russia, it would be all over the press when it is delivered. I guess I am on my way back to Broughton !

PS if we all chipped in some money (saved from not paying for attachment disk space!) we could start our own airline ? Boeing could lend us a couple of B747-8's and may be Airbus would lend us a couple of Ex Skymark A380's ? just trying to be funny this time !
