Bee causes a FlyBe DH8D to return to land shortly after take off.The report is rather amusing - "FlyBee", lol - but still a warning of how a small object can cause a serious disruption in the flight's instruments. Reminiscent of the Birgenair Flight 301 crash where wasps were suspected of blocking the 757's pitot tubes, but fortunately in this case, the pilots knew better what to do. I guess everyone's super alert these days about unreliable airspeeds after AF447.

They really should have GPS back up for airspeed ! Or do aircraft already have this ? Aircraft do have GPS equipment and for all I know, just provides ground speed. But know the difference between ground speed and airspeed. The former is just in relation to the ground. The airspeed is in relation to the moving air and this is what's important when it comes to lift.

A very good job that the well-rehearsed fire drill swung immediately into action to minimize aircraft damage and danger to all.

Luckily I did not post the first pictures that were flying around about this ! Cos they were from ANOTHER accident in 2012 when a Twin Otter tipped over near by the qeyside. ASN and Flightradar24 had a right old ding dong about it on Twitter !! So NOW they are even MORE Unlucky than I first thought !!
