The prices are very interesting, though I would take them with a grain of salt. For instance, the articles sets the monthly rental rate for a new plane at $2 million-plus, yet SQ is said to have paid 1,7 million ...
I hope many takers come forward !

Discount for taking 5 or an exchange rate fluctuation ?

Shouldn't these used birds work well on domestic routes in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and such? Especially when you can leave the cabin as it is, aside from taking out F class and showers maybe.
For comparison: One single new A321 costs 115 million dollars list price. And that's for a ceo! Availability is the next issue.

Availability is the next issue. With the Chinese express trains now running at 300-350km per hour and always on time, attracting more and more business trips by train, it is very unlikely to see any domestic usage of A380 in China. There isn't enough people for these birds, A330 is big enough, and the larger number of passengers would cause even more delays on and off the plane.
I really don't see that. Returned from China yesterday, had 3-hour delay on Tuesday flight and over 2-hour delay on Wednesday flight. A fast train would have reached the destination at the same time.

Availability is the next issue. I'd imagine the A380 would have astronomical operating costs on short haul routes and would be too big for most if not all markets. For full service carriers, frequency is king and on short routes, this is easily achievable. Sure, in some places there are problems with airspace and airport capacity although in most cases this can be overcome by using widebody twins instead of a narrowbodies. Regarding whether the same config could be used, most A380s are configured in quite a premium config and they'd probably need to be reconfigured in a more dense and economy heavy config to be more suited for domestic operations. Also, most business seats in A380s are designed for long haul routes where business passengers would like to sleep, for short haul operations, this isn't really required and airlines could get away with a smaller business class seat which means they can install more seats on the aircraft. Of course airlines could use existing configurations although it won't be the most efficient way of utilising the aircraft.
