Icelandair considers A321neo and possible all-Airbus fleet As was the case with a recent Flydubai statement, we have to wonder whether this is more than a tactical move to put pressure on an ongoing negotiation with Boeing. I have no doubt that Icelandair is truly interested in the A321neo, but the threat of moving to an all-Airbus fleet comes as a surprise to me.

I have no doubt that Icelandair is truly interested in the A321neo, but the threat of moving to an all-Airbus fleet comes as a surprise to me. I could imagine that Icelandair is rather pissed at Boeing regarding the 737MAX. Not only the grounding of the fleet, there should be 9 MAX flying for Icelandair now, but also the realization that they bought a castrated simulator, that does or did not show MCAS and its failure modes. Icelandair takes its pilot training serious. If Icelandair takes up the A321neoLR/XLR it is logical to go for a complete fleet change. It could also be influenced, by what Icelandair do know regarding the NMA/797.

Another issue is that the MAX cannot replace the 757 om many of their routes. Right now the only aircraft that can do is the A321LR, unless changing to an expensive widebody with significant more capacity

I remembered reading some months ago that theybwere looking at this as a 757 replacement, or assessing id they should wait for the NMA/MOM..would be interesting to know what delivery slots are actually available...with the A320 Family, it seems, the longer you wait, the longer you will wait.

With the NEO, at least you know how long you have to wait. No one knows with the NMA. Although Boeing keep saying 2025, right now almost no one believes them. So it is more like 2027 as Leeham suggest. And that is if you’re the launch customers and the development, certification and initial production of the aircraft, and not to forget: the engines, go as planned. Which seldom seems to happen. And I do believe Icelandair needs a 757 replacement before 2027/2028......

China AL choose a321neo for narrowbody fleet renewal: www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/77934-china-airlines-chooses-a321neo-for-narrowbody-renewalfull text: "China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan) has announced it has selected the A321neo for its narrowbody fleet renewal plan and tentatively, the B777-F for its widebody freighter fleet renewal plan. In a statement, the Taiwanese carrier said its board had considered the A320neo and A321neo from Airbus as well as the B737-8 and -9 from Boeing. However, given the numerous opinions presented during internal discussions, a final decision was delayed from mid-2018 until now. According to the carrier, it will initially lease fourteen A321neo due for delivery from 2021 onwards. It has also begun negotiations for firm orders for eleven more A321neo from Airbus along with five options. China Airlines currently operates eighteen B737-800s while its Tigerair Taiwan (IT, Taipei Taoyuan) subsidiary operates eleven A320ceo. It did not specifically comment on whether the LCC's own fleet renewal plan had been incorporated into this new acquisition. Insofar as its freighter order is concerned, China Airlines said it had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU) with Boeing for a study which focusses on the use of the B777-F. The partnership includes a potential order for three firm B777-Fs along with three options. The aircraft, whose delivery dates were not revealed given the absence of a firm commitment, would be used to partially replace China Airlines' current fleet of eighteen B747-400(FSCD)s used on routes to Europe and North America, it said."

Who other than Vietnam Airlines, Interjet, China Southern and Air China still takes delivery of non-ACF A321neos?
Most other now seems to be the ACF variant

Most other now seems to be the ACF variant I don't think customers have a free choice, Airbus is setting the pace for the change to the ACF fuselage. If I remember correctly, ACF will become the production standard at some point next year. Until then, the number of ACF is restricted.
