That's nice, thanks addasih!! I must admit, almost all the flights I've ever had with ATR weren't on the American continent, why so?.... Mostly Asia.

Leeham on ATR tour to the USA.... leehamnews.com/2016/05/17/atr-targets-bombardiers-last-stronghold-usa/Interesting is the discussion behind.... "dedeallard May 17, 2016 Turboprop use to offert a 20% economy on operating cost over regional jet on short route. But new RJ like the E2, MRJ and the SSJ100 have at least a 20% lower operating cost putting them head to head with the turboprops. Bombardier and ATR have to work with PWC to get the PW100NG on there plane otherwise the turboprop market is a dead market."

The 'regional' market is rather small, the turboprop is a smaller subset of that market. Yet, the turboprop market is far from dead. Do you know that ATR's present production rate is its highest ever ?
What should weigh on it, however, is cheap fuel : when fuel price decreases, so does the turboprop market. The smaller the market, the less likely major innovations.

Synergy Aerospace purchases 12 firm ATR 72-600s The aircraft will be operated by a new airline under the Avianca Argentina brand. This is another major victory for ATR, as the customer (Synergy) is one of the most important South American airline groups. So far, Airbus' choice to defer new aircraft developments seems to be well-accepted by the market.

With all 12 to be delivered by Jan 2018 it made me think what is the order book back log of ATRs? How can they make 12 frames available in just over one year ?
