We just learned that BBD is selling the Q400 programme to the Longview group (also owning Viking Air). This information is being discussed in the 'Q400 general discussion' thread. I copy here some of my comments in that thread that concern ATR, the other player in the turboprop market.
1 - ATR's only competitor is now a much smaller group. I don't think Longview/Viking can throw up a credible challenge in the long term. Is the turboprop market set for a monopolistic situation ?
2 - Has ATR any incentive left to invest in a new programme ? I believe they should dissuade new entrants by announcing a new programme, even if it's a slow-running one.
