My dear friends, I am very interested in your experiences with different airlines (except LCC and charter). As I have often very long flights, I always try to book good Airlines. But I have found out, that there are often big differences (service, space, condition of the aircraft). So I was a little bit disappointed by Etihad and Cathay Pacific. There are good airlines, but not as good as I expected. Thrilled I am from Singapore Airlines. Expected bad, however, was United. My own personal ranking is as follows: +++ Singapore Airlines ++ KLM Lufthansa Emirates British Airways + Etihad Cathay Pacific -- Iberia --- United I would, for example, never fly with United again (Europe to North America). But I do not know whether Delta or American Airlines are better. Furthermore, I consider myself to fly to Australia via Bangkok (Thai), Shanghai (China Eastern) or Guangzhou (China Southern). What are your experiences with these airlines? I am looking forward to your posts cheers TP

Are we talking about a ranking for long haul only, or for all routes ? In other words, is it for widebody operations only, or for both narrowbodies and widebodies ?

Up to that are you ranking Y or C ? It is a significant difference. To my perception - speaking only about Y.... There is no comparison Lufthansa and BA - BA is much much better. Even BA 20+ years old 747 is better than LH A380 - concerning seating service etc. And again EK in A380 is superb, EK in 777 seating 3-4-3 is not very good. So it is sort of tough to compare. More input data is needed.

The request for more input is very difficult. I'm interested in exactly these experiences you've written. Thank you s543!

OK here I come. I fly with Y only too.
I have flown with A380 with LH, BA, EK - in that order - and the seating + service is in the same order just LH is way the worst, BA and EK are very close, the seating to my perception about the same in last two, no comparison to LH - to sit in LH A380 it is better to sit in Vueling or EasyJet A320. And on one way with EK we had horrible stewardess, extremely slow and "sour" looking, on the other way just excellent. So....
I have flown with 777 in last years with EK, BA, AA, AF - again the order is from worst to better, how ever the difference is EK bad, BA=AA (about the same), AF better food but no difference in seating.
Concerning seating I do like the A330/340 - it is usually better than any 777.
I would say that Fabien is the ultimate source on Y travels - his flight log is most impressive !!!!! I do believe there is not so many people on the globe with his experience.

I know I am on holiday and about to ferry back to the UK with The brilliant Thomas cook airlines (hope they read this) but you should not comment on what people look like, only service please You might want to edit that bit out ?

Interesting idea! My somewhat limited experiences (also only in Economy, sadly...) largely agree with tomparis1 initial post. I would rank the airlines I few on so far as follows: +++ (top) Singapore Airlines ++ (really good) Turkish Airlines + (OK) ANA Asiana Lufthansa Austrian Airlines Aer Lingus - (slightly disappointing) Cathay Pacific China Airlines -- (serious inconviences) Air China Delta --- (horrible) United Air Canada

henge and s543many thanks for your reviews. I have read them with great interest! stealthmanbob: I know this question is very subjective. It should be no scientific work. Whether you enjoy doing something is often not verifiable with hard facts. Please do not take this so seriously. How s543 already said. On a flight the flight attendant was friendly, on the other not. Of course, that is no reason for a bad airline. But if many people say that the airline has unfriendly stewardesses that is a trend. s543. I am also a big fan of Fabien’s flight diary. I think he can write a book on this subject with 900 pages cheers TP
