FrenchBlue is an attempt to create a long-haul, low-cost carrier.
Air Caraïbes is a leisure carrier.

FrenchBlue is an attempt to create a long-haul, low-cost carrier. Air Caraïbes is a leisure carrier. They could operate long haul flights under the Air Caraïbes brand. The creation of a dedicated entity shows the perceived need for a new brand : they probably decided the existing name was the wrong choice on international markets. They keep using the Air Caraïbes brand on French domestic flights for the moment, but if French Blue is successful, then they might in the future merge both entities under the international brand.

Only one a350-900 for French Blue: www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/45716-groupe-dubreuil-to-limit-lcc-french-blue-to-indianocanieFor members of forum who don't have ch-aviation subscription whole text of article: "Following a five-day strike, Groupe Dubreuil has reached an agreement with worker unions at its Air Caraïbes (TX, Pointe à Pitre) unit concerning the carrier's future role within the company. Strikes were called to protest the group's planned launch of longhaul LCC French Blue (Paris Orly) whose existence would have threatened Air Caraïbes employees' livelihoods from their perspective. France's Tourmag reports the group's management has agreed to limit French Blue's operations to the Indian Ocean market while preserving the Transatlantic/Caribbean market for Air Caraïbes. French Blue will inaugurate operations in September this year with flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The route will initially operate using Air Caraïbes' traffic rights but will switch to the full-service carrier's metal in June next year when French Blue's Mauritius and St. Denis de la Réunion services come online. Management has also agreed to deliver the Group's first two of three A350-900s on lease from the International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) to Air Caraïbes with the third airframe to be placed with French Blue only in summer 2017."
