Might be part of the financial war over compensations. Real price of one A320 with engines on the tarmac might be some 45mil USD (OK substract the price of the engines...) x 35 pcs and we have a hefty sum to finance - not to get from the customers - how ever most of the expenses are long time spent.....

If true, that would be very bad news, explaining Enders' frustration with P&W.

The following is a quote from page 3 of Indigo's latest financial statement, regarding A320neo status. www.goindigo.in/content/dam/goindigo/investor-relations/Financial%20Results/2017-18/q1-apr-to-jun-2018/Prepared-Remarks-Transcript-Q1-FY18.pdf"Now, let me address the operational reliability issues around our A320neos. As you may recall, we had mentioned in a prior call that we are experiencing operational issues with the neo engines related to the premature degradation of the combustor chamber lining and the premature wear of the No. 3 bearing seal. As a result, we continue to have a high number of engine removals and sufficient spare engines have not been available. Regrettably, there have been days when we have had to ground as many as nine A320neos due to lack of spare engines. While we do receive certain compensation from Pratt and Whitney for these groundings, the operational disruptions are quite challenging and we are not happy with that situation. Based on what we know today, it may be another year or so before the design changes are implemented by Pratt and Whitney which should allow these engines to have the on-wing flight hours that we expect from them. Pratt and Whitney is a good partner and we have tremendous respect for their leadership team and have impressed upon them that they need to focus on increasing the number of spare engines that are available in the system. And, under the assumption that we receive sufficient number of spares, we hope to see significantly reduced operational disruptions within the next few months.

They had to ground Nine (9) NEO's! I had no idea that the situation with the P&W engines was that bad. I can see how this is causing lots of headaches for current P&W NEO customers. I'm certain they will be fixed in the near future, but I feel sorry for Airbus and the Airlines...hoping to get the latest cutting edge aircraft than this happening to them.

I think the main question is whether the fixes introduced by P&W work as intended or not. If they do, then production of new engines should soon solve the problems. Enders however called them 'unreliable', which is deeply concerning ... Anyhow, the combustion chamber problem fix is not expected before September.

Slightly off topic for a post or so but does the 737 MAX also use P&W engines or just CFM? I guess what I'm asking is if this is an Airbus only problem at the moment.

The 737 MAX is only using the CFM engines ( if my information are right ). From my point of view, Airbus lose many time with the problems from the P&W engines. The lead that Airbus had with the earlier program start from the A320neo melt away (but that is my personal opinion).
