Engine supply from both P&W and CFM seems to be dead slow. I assume that 2 deliveries will be counted for January, one LEAP frame and one GTF frame. Still we see frames standing around without engines, stored. I have the unsubstantiated feeling that more GTF frames start to get engines than CFM. At the same time Boeing is installing LEAP engines on frames to be delivered in July.

Does the engine delivery delays from both manufacturers mean that Airbus pushed them to ensure maximum deliveries in December to show a higher achievement for 2016 with a penalty for slower-than-expected delivery in Q1 2017?
I manage diesel engine manufacturing plant which has relatively less automation. We do have customers forcing us to finish their quarterly targets. We shift manpower from Assembly to Testing & Delivery which affects the WIP flow and deliveries in first couple of weeks.
I see a same pattern here for annual numbers:
08 deliveries in September 16 08 deliveries in October 16 10 deliveries in November 16 28 deliveries in December 16 02 deliveries in January 17

P&W shortfall on the GTF was supposed to about 50 engines off all types and CFM are short 23 LEAP engines.

I think the high stakes in the competition between P&W and CFM to power the -neo has led both manufacturers to commit to optimistic - if not utterly unrealistic - delivery numbers.

I think the high stakes in the competition between P&W and CFM to power the -neo has led both manufacturers to commit to optimistic - if not utterly unrealistic - delivery numbers. As far as I remember the CFM was quite concerned about the ramp and production rate. At the moment it does not look that Airbus is able to really hard pushing. No painting and no outfitting in TLS is clearly not the way to accelerate deliveries. So based on these observation I do not see a basis for blaming the OEMs at the moment.
