guys, with the current backlog, is this an actual new order or just a confirmation? does anyone see a new order being delivered in 2019? isn't that when JAL is expected to get theirs and that msn 350-something? just a though.. any response educating me is appreciated.

A new order although it would have been discussed for quite a while now since I remember seeing an article late last year saying an order was imminent. Yes, JAL's first A350s are due in 2019 although I've yet to see a production list that is complete up to the first MSN allocated for JAL so they might have had a few empty slots reserved for new customers (especially Chinese ones since I believe Chinese planning laws mean that airlines generally order aircraft which can be delivered within 5 years). Also, the UA and AA deferrals would have freed up a few production slots. 2 years from order to delivery is quite fast although not impossible. For reference Lufthansa ordered the A350 in September 2013 with their first aircraft delivered in 2016.

Is this an actual new order or just a confirmation? Does anyone see a new order being delivered in 2019? It must be a new order, since Bloomberg says 'plans to buy'. Though six delivery slots is a lot, Airbus may have reserved a few of them to help win a new order from a major customer. Alternatively, some scheduled deliveries may have been delayed. Broadly speaking, delivery schedules are constantly updated to include changes made at customer request, or following a manufacturer's proposal. This requires a tough negociation - it is a game which Airbus is very good at.
