It possibly has as airplane sizes grow. A 737 successor will be bigger in any case and might even be non-single aisle. (Avoiding the term widebody for something in between here) Right - but you still have a problem of two aisles. It is a LOT of empty weight being carried around. The benefit is faster people movement - the question is of those two can balance ?

Not sure what the ideal size might be myself. It seems cargo container carriage in the lower deck might become more of a factor when finding the next diameter dimensions.
Two aisles speed up turnaround times no question but they waste space and weight. Seat arrangements like 3+4 or 4+4 sound tight even for shorter flights. On the other hand: Fuselages becoming to long create problems as well.
Maybe some 767-style layout with widened lower cargo deck space will do the trick?

Neither 3-4 nor 4-4 could be certified, as such configurations don't meet the following safety requirement, which is unlikely to be relaxed : no passenger may be seated more than two seats away from an aisle.
That's the reason why narrowbodies are 3-2 or 3-3, and why any seven-abreast seating requires two aisles.
I doubt widening the lower cargo deck without taking advantage to go for eight-abreast seating would be clever. On the opposite, going seven-abreast with a reduced cargo hold ('flat' oval fuselage) is among rumoured options.

Talk to RUAG and have their Do 228 designers do the math.
