On the END I do believe good for Embraer.
The history shows well how the take-overs done by Boeing go !

Strange developments. Bombardier used to be pretty close to Boeing one day when the CRJ was founded with Boeing input. On the other hand Embraer is pretty similar to the small Airbus jets in some cases (FBW, cockpit) and now both young ones change their sugar daddies.

I still think we will see rather a J/V than a take over if it happens. Either Boeing accepts a deal uncompassing civilian aircraft only (though the Embraer workforce and the populace would not like splitting the company), or they accept not to be in control.

Looks like now they are heading for JV As expected - The Brazilian government would not allow Embraer's defense business to be controlled by a foreign firm.

I'm wondering how much does Boeing earn from creating JV. I thought one of the driven force is short on engineers at Boeing Never believe in such 'lofty' goals when you see a strategic move with a cost of several billion dollars. The goals were : - to gain a large influence in Brazil's defense, translating over the years into large defense contracts ; - to reduce competition in the airliner production business by eliminating a potential future competitor ; - to enter a new market segment (100 seaters), thus creating ties with new customers, and driving them to the Boeing lineup when they grow ; - to acquire a cheap - though skilled - labour force, allowing Boeing to move production of sub-assemblies to Brazil while fully controlling production.

I here completely agree with Philidor (surprisingly). Just remember how BO deals with companies it bought - very good example was Aero Vodochody close to Prague they (their daughter company Sikorsky) bought some 20 years back. The government kept the "gold" share and after the way handled this not small company was handled for 10 years (Aero Vodochody produced in the past well over 3500 of L39+L29....) kicked them out and surprisingly after 10 years of losses suddenly all works nicely and fine. They produce a lot of parts for Embraer, some sections of A321 body, and the works of L39NG are going well with few hundreds of orders already booked. What BO did - Aero produced complete "body" for most larger Sikorski helicopters and sold them happily to BO for about 1/2 the price - simple and easy. They did not "went out of business" since they still sold spare parts for some of those L39 + some items to Embraer, some parts to Airbus.... but they did produced for the complete time it was owned by BO losses without exception for ALL those years !!!! Next year they were already doing OK ! So my understanding is they simply wanted Embraer exactly for the reasons Philidor said and the Brasilien government would have to be complete idiots to agree to BO proposition. It would be total and complete loss for the state. They are suddenly so active to countermand the AB/CSseries deal. BO has no money for engineering - but they do always have enough for buyback shares.....
