Now I do not know what to make of this. Mr. Faury said it was Boeing's move to make..now this...in a few months we will definitely see what happens though. Well, the answer is quite simple : this 'story' is just speculation. Airbus may launch that variant this year, next year or not launch it at all. Alternatively, Airbus may launch some other longer-range variant ... This thread is to cover all the rumours and tidbits of information on the -XLR variant, and that's fine for enthusiasts like us ! The point seems to be that Airbus sales people got permission to offer, without any fanfares from Airbus. So they are actually talking to airlines about that bird. Here in Iceland they are talking to Icelandair. We of course do not know if that will lead to a launch, aka getting enough launch customers to sign up.

They should talk (and I am sure already do) talk to DELTA - it would be a big customer for such a plane.

IMO it is not an answer to an MNA, but the logical evolution of the A321 True, but it "eats" into the NMAs market and reducing potential sales

it would be great if Delta could convert a part of their Order. that would give the programme a nice boost..

I thing to open slots, Airbus has to ramp over and above 60 frames. if they ramp to 66 frames, a number that seems to fit the max capacity of the current final assembly lines, that could open up 6 * 12 = 72 slots in the near future.

Airlines / Lease companies would also be able to create their own slots by converting existing A321 orders to the XLR model.

Would be interesting to see the leading times, when EIS would be targeted. Would it be then 2023?..
