DHL is to choose between A350F and B777-8F for a future order, soon ! Quote CH Aviation - "DHL Express will order either the A350F or B777-8F in "the not-so-distant" future as the global logistics firm strives to lower its environmental footprint, Senior Vice-President (Global Air Fleet Management) Malcolm Macbeth said during the Cargo Facts Symposium in San Diego. "We've taken the stance that anything that we get from 2025 onwards that's still going to be with us in 2050 has to be an improvement in efficiency. So that basically says that, after 2025, anything new that we get in the large-widebody space will have to be the new technology," he said. DHL International has an unfilled order for seven current-generation B777-200Fs from Boeing, with deliveries planned through early 2025. Airbus has updated its airplane characteristics and planning document with initial information on the A350F (or A350-1000F as per it's formal designation) aircraft.airbus.com/en/customer-care/fleet-wide-care/airport-operations-and-aircraft-characteristics/aircraft-characteristicsSome things I note; -aircraft has a MZFW of 240T (compared to 223 of the -1000. I think freighters generally are designed for higher MZFWs) -MTOW of 319T (it hasn't yet listed the 322T weight variant for passenger -1000) and MLW of 252T -there a section which lists the fuel volume of optional RCT(s) which give an additional 20,000L of fuel. First time I'm seeing mention of the potential for additional fuel on the -1000. I'm assuming RCT here is rear centre tanks going by their acronym on the A321XLR. I also wonder if this is also what's being developed for Qantas's -1000 passenger aircraft.
