Plans have then changed, as the last plans were 7 frames in between 2014 and 2015... Fabien

Not all 2015 slots have been allocated yet.

The strange thing is Lufthansa confirmed in their 2013 half year financial report the order for 2 more A380's that would have made a fleet of 19. If these are still in the book but now as options or have been cancelled as well is not clear from the report. Total orders now stand at 259 again.

Yes it's odd, they must have changed their mind very quickly.

I remember that LH confirmed two more A380! Strange story. Maybe Boeing gave them three 747-8 for free Let's wait and see!

If these are still in the book but now as options or have been cancelled as well is not clear from the report. Total orders now stand at 259 again. The two extra orders were subject to board approval edit, had gained board approval however had yet to be firmed ( link). That order also included A320s and A330s which were subsequently firmed however the 2 A380s were never in Airbus's firm order book. With the order for the 777-9X I think they just had too much VLA capacity. Boeing probably gave them a very good deal for the 34 -9Xs which probably also included incentives for them to keep the 748. This left the A380 as the aircraft to go and they converted the 3 A380s to part of the A350 order. Sad to see three less A380s in the order book, especially from a carrier such as Lufthansa although hopefully they'll change their minds. At least this potentially opens up some earlier slots for future customers. Also confirms why this (from the 777/A350 order) only says 4 more A380 deliveries.

That's very bad news. Up to this cancellation, airline satisfaction was the main A380 bright spot, most operators topping up their orders.
This cancellation shows that the 777X is a new strong competitor in the small VLA market, whatever Boeing says to the contrary.
Unless Airbus comes up with some new initiative, it's difficult to remain optimistic for the whalejet ...

www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/04/airbus-orders-idUSL6N0HU32J20131004Is there any difference between a firm option and a normal option? This cancellation shows that the 777X is a new strong competitor in the small VLA market, whatever Boeing says to the contrary. Unless Airbus comes up with some new initiative, it's difficult to remain optimistic for the whalejet ... A380neo with Trent XWBs or GE9X/Genx. I know EK is quite keen for Airbus to do it [albeit with technology from the new engines being put into the GP7200], maybe LH will also reconsider their cancellation if it happens. Has LH ever stated an interest in a -900 variant?
