Lufthansa Said to See Boeing-Airbus Split on Jet Order- Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA) will split an order for about 50 wide-body aircraft between Airbus SAS and Boeing Co. (BA), a purchase with a list value of at least $14 billion - The twin-engine jets will be Boeing’s new 777-9X, which is due to fly by decade’s end, and Airbus’s A350-900 - Boeing jets will make up a majority of the order, said one of the people. - An announcement may come as soon as next week, the people said.

It will be very interesting to see if there is something included in their deal to switch from 748i to 777-9

It will be very interesting to see if there is something included in their deal to switch from 748i to 777-9 Quite possible. At the very least, we can expect the 20 options they had for the 748i to have been dropped.

Again, I find it hard to believe that they will have a mix of A380s + B747-8s + B777-9. Obviously, they know better ...

Again, I find it hard to believe that they will have a mix of A380s + B747-8s + B777-9. Obviously, they know better ... Yet, I'll wait for an announcement. Don't forget that in their orders, aircraft for their subsidiary airlines are often included. Austrian airlines already operates the 777-200, Swiss has 6x 777-300 on order, LH has some 777F and aerologic has 8x 777F. So actually, they already have the mentioned mix yet.

It seems odd to me that German Govt want a greater share of the Airbus production, yet they are happy to let Lufthansa buy a greater percentage of Boeing craft. The Govt must have some influence even though no longer a shareholder.

It seems odd to me that German Govt want a greater share of the Airbus production, yet they are happy to let Lufthansa buy a greater percentage of Boeing craft. The Govt must have some influence even though no longer a shareholder. The German government has no input into investment decisions of Lufthansa.

The Govt must have some influence even though no longer a shareholder. Welcome aboard the doubledecker, tigermoth! As much as I would have loved to see LH order all Airbus, I think it's a good thing to see no govt. influence in such purchases. To put it another way, politics shouldn't drive Airbus's sales. In any case, LH is still sourcing the majority of its fleet from Airbus if you count the narrowbodies too.
