Very good news for Kuwait Airways and Airbus ! The government seems to have decided to revive the airline ... Let's take it with a grain of salt, though, as we are still some distance away from a contract.

John Leahy said he was targeting 80 orders for the A350 this year. So far we have,
CIT - 10 ALC - 25 IAG - 18 Srilankan Airlines - 4? Kuwait Airways - 10?
Brings the total to 67. Have I missed anyone else?

Airbus is well on track to beat the forecast target of 700 for the year. While the order for 130 A320NEOs appears as firm in their books, Airbus is yet to firm the 130 A320CEOs even though American Airlines has approved the order with deliveries starting in July. The delay in Airbus firming them up in their books seems to stem from the fact that it will be leased rather than American buying them outright according to this Flightglobal article. Does this mean that the order for 130 CEOs is to be assigned to the third party who is leasing them to American Airlines?

Yes, Airbus will probably record the orders with the lessors, not with American themselves. For example, in 2011, Singapore Airlines ordered 15 more A330s. Initially, all 15 aircraft where listed under Singapore Airlines, however, if you look at the latest O&D document, the are only 2 orders from Singapore Airlines for the A330. The rest are distributed to the various lessors SQ are using.

The rest are distributed to the various lessors SQ are using. According to the same Flightglobal article, quoting bankrupty court filings, AA and Airbus have entered a long term lease agreement. In such a contract, the aircraft remain the property of the lessor (in this case, Airbus or another EADS company such as Airbus Finance) and are shown on its balance sheet. They cannot be officially booked as ordered for sale. The reason for that arrangement was to allow AA to differ their application for lease finance until they have left bankrupty. Most probably, a lessor will soon step in to purchase the aircraft from Airbus and lease them to AA. Then only the agreement will be recorded as a sale (to the lessor, as specified in the previous post), adding up to Airbus' backlog. What I don't know is the rationale for the different solutions agreed upon for the CEOs and the NEOs.
