Ryanair close to placing new $10 billion Boeing order- Irish low-cost airline Ryanair is in advanced talks to buy at least 100 Boeing 737 MAX jetliners with extra seats in a potential $10 billion deal that could be finalised in days or weeks, two people familiar with the matter said. - A deal for about 100 of those aircraft could be reached as early as the middle of September, one of the people said, asking not to be identified because the talks are confidential.

I expect them to order more at a later date. Eventually they have 180 737 NG aircraft to replace, but the newer models don't need a replacement right away.

Never was, and still not, a fan of the toy-plane colour scheme of Southwest Airlines. It's still so outdated.

FR has 300 plus aircraft in the fleet now plus 180 firm ordered 737-800 and 100 firm ordered 737 MAX 200 plus 100 options intending to convert them to firm orders too. Quite some substantial order.
Michael O'Leary said yesterday he had evaluated Airbus aircraft as well but they had looked at him like he would just use Airbus offers for a better rebate at Boeing and didn't take him too serious in this case. How did Airbus lure U2 away from Boeing back then? With the 156 seat A319. Shouldn't the A321neo be a great lowcost aircraft as well? How many seats would be thinkable? Would close to 250 work? (=still five flight attendants) That would be my route to attack.
